that of an Englishman is appointed to a post in this Colony, he is not liable to this expense of occasional repatriation, and his salary is therefore usually fixed on a somewhat lower scale. Mr. Young Hee's fitness for his post is not questioned, and I presume that these were the considerations which led Sir M. Nathan to refuse the application for increase of salary. The fact that this gentleman has married a wife whose home is in New Zealand does not appear to me to be one of which the Government can take official cognizance.
